  2. What type of substrate do you use and why do you add C02?

    thanks

    1. I am using Aquasoil Amazonia I, the original type. Not the new kind.
I add co2 to enhance the growth of my mosses and to inhibit algae growth. I do it for no other reason besides those two. It does lower my ph a bit, although that's just a side-effect of my main reason. I technically could skip out on co2 but I like having healthy looking moss too much :)

    2. Thanks for the answer. Isn't the C02 bad for the shrimp though? How many bps are you running? Thanks again.

    3. Injection of carbon dioxide into our tanks CAN potentially be bad for your inhabitants that breathe underwater. However, if you have a good understanding of co2 to begin with, this can be avoided and prove to be beneficial for your tank.
The use of co2 is no stranger to me. Prior to being a shrimp fanatic, I was a big plant guy and thus, used co2 in almost all my tanks. The key is moderation. First off, you need to gauge the amount of light that is being used on your tank. Once you determine it's strength, adjust your co2 to meet the light's demands. One good analogy that I've come across was this, imagine the light being the pedals to your car and co2 being the gas. You can step on the pedals really hard but if you don't have the gas, the car won't move much.
In my tanks, I keep light levels low. Therefore, the amount of co2 I inject is really low too. I do not count BPS but rather just look at the amount of co2 being expelled by my glass diffuser. If I had to estimate the BPS for you, I would say it's 1 BPS or less. Perhaps 1/2 BPS (1 bubble per 2 seconds).

  3. thanks bro. i have a nice c02 setup that is sitting idle...perhaps i'll throw it in the shrimp tank at very very low levels
